Drew Dave | SynthBASED
Jazzy piano loops, afrobeat percussion, breakbeat exoticism, and bounce make up Drew Dave “SynthBASED,” an instrumental ride. Residing in the crux of vintage and modern techniques is Drew Dave, who’s faithful to the soul that lives in his hardware, but maintains forward vision for live instrumentation and midi-synths on his latest project.
Drew Dave has doodled over the orginal syllabi of Hiphop instrumentalism, creating ornate embellishments of prerequisite texts. Drew Dave’s aspirations for musicality over straight beats, his the ability to deliver bangers that loop gravelly roars, and his smooth crisp production lead listeners on a rhapsodic journey. (SynthBASED, arrives February 24th.)

Radius is the legendary jet setter from across the States. In "Time Travel Is Real (A Prelude To Japan...) Radius takes the listener on a journey - through time and space, with jazzy beats and loops that roll smooth and delicate. Created as an ode to a future trip (now in the past) to Japan, the album resonates the sound of free form improvisation. The loose constructions collide and form into beautiful beats and inspirational sounds. Limited to 100 silver cassettes. Includes cassette only bonus track.
"I created an album to promote the journey & also to give thanks to the many that have supported and inspired me on my travels & shows etc. This project was finished in my current "home", Oahu, Hawaii. All tracks were created within Chicago, St. Louis (One For Ferguson) & Honolulu. I hope that it serves as an inspiration to all those that listen. Supreme full circle energy reflection is the key. Stay strong & keep creating and pushing YOUR dreams to REALITY. Thanks for your support. Much respect. Enjoy and see you soon. "

Quincy Jones | Keep On Keeping On | Documentary
Take a look at Quincy Jones‘ sprawling exploration of the life and legacy of legendary jazz trumpeter Clark Terry and his prodigious piano-playing protegĂ© Justin Kauflin in the documentary Keep On Keeping On. Now it appears that the film has made its way to the short-list in the Oscar discussion, joining 14 other prestigious films being considered for the Academy’s nod, including stand-outs like The Internet’s Own Boy, Art And Craft and others. However, it will be the lone music-oriented doc considered, but that’s no strike against the film, as the last two years have seen sensational music docs like 20 Feet From Stardom and Searching For Sugar Man take home the golden bald guy with ease. We’ll have to wait until January 15th for the official nomination announcement, but if you’ve got a head on your shoulders and ears on that head, you’ll go and get familiar stat.
If you need an extra push, check out the trailer for the Quincy Jones-produced documentary Keep On Keeping On below and stay tuned as we creep up on Oscar season and the imminent debate over whether the panel called it correctly.

ACTION BRONSON X BLACK ATLASS X PARTY SUPPLIES | THE LIGHT IN THE ADDICT
It’s no secret that Action Bronson shines on any beat provided to him by indie producer Party Supplies – just look at the strength of Blue Chips, Volumes 1 & II, or his recently released “Easy Rider,” from Bronsolini’s forthcoming debut studio LP, Mr. Wonderful. It is with great pleasure that we present another collaboration from the two, a jazzy, beautifully orchestrated, piano-driven number called “The Light in the Addict.” The producer’s Fool’s Gold labelmate Black Atlass also appears to provide a verse. While it certainly sounds like a melancholy affair, Party Supplies told Billboard that it’s the “sound of hope and survival and the crossroads of good and bad.” Hear it below:

Mac Miller aka Larry Fisherman | Rhythm Roulette
On this episode of Rhythm Roulette we have Mac Miller aka Larry Fisherman. Traveling out to LA, we headed over to Record Surplus where Mac went into the Jazz selection and got his fingers dusty.
Heading back to his studio, Mac quickly sifted through the three records and began crafting the skeleton of the beat before finishing the production by playing keys and guitar over the track. If you're still sleeping on Mac as a producer, check out his beat tape Run on Sentences Vol.1.

NehruvianDOOM | Caskets
The teenage Brooklyn rapper Bishop Nehru has teamed up with the masked underground rap eminence DOOM to form a duo called NehruvianDOOM, and their self-titled album is coming out later this year. We’ve already heard two of the LP’s tracks, “Darkness (HBU)” and “Om,” but we haven’t heard one thing from the LP yet, and that’s DOOM delivering a proper verse on the album. But on “Caskets,” the latest track from the EP, DOOM opens things up with a nicely grizzled appearance before Nehru takes over the track with young-scholar energy. DOOM also produced the track, and it’s got his woozily melodic dusty jazz-influenced fingerprints all over it. Listen below.
NehruvianDOOM is out 10/6 on Lex.
CASKETS is taken from NEHRUVIANDOOM, the forthcoming album by Bishop Nehru & DOOM.

The Stepkids | Wanderers
The Stepkids a trio of vocalist/guitarist Jeff Gitelman, vocalist/bassist/keyboardist Dan Edinberg, and vocalist/drummer Tim Walsh released a new three song EP of tracks recorded during the sessions that ultimately made up last year’s Troubadour.
These songs embody the same open-minded vibe of that album but with a heck of a lot more experimentation and the jazz/psych influences that the band just cannot hide.
Wanderers is available for free download at the Stones Throw site and for purchase with instrumental tracks at the Stones Throw store.
