While the world awaits his fourth studio LP, Views From The 6, The Boy hits us with a surprise. Originally slated to sneak-drop as early as January, Drake unexpectedly drops off a surprise 17-track project titled, If You're Reading This It's Too Late. The LP comes hours after Drizzy released a short-film titled, Jungle (and six years after So Far Gone if you're keeping track at home). The dark 15-minute visual – captured around the city of Toronto – features narration from October’s Very Own along with throwback footage of him in his younger days. Salomon Faye recently released visuals for his single, “Luv”, featuring fellow newcomer Raveena. Directed by Baldomero Fernandez and Vincent Oshin, the visuals for “Luv” are almost as tender and endearing as its lyrics.

Oddisee and Phonte's | Requiem | New Music

Mello Music Group is currently preparing their annual compilation project, and today, they debut the first single, "Requiem," from Oddisee and Phonte. Over some funky production from Oddisee himself, the conscious track focuses on the recent struggles of society, particularly the killing of unarmed black men by police, as they mention, "Anything from candy to cigarettes can get a n***a killed," which is reference to the death of Eric Garner.

The album, titled Persona, is currently available for pre-order on iTunes and on the Mello Music Group Website before its release on March 10, and is set to also feature appearances from Ras Kass, Rapper Big Pooh, Kool Keith, Apollo Brown, and more. If most compilations are nothing more than a loosely thrown together collection of songs, Persona boasts meticulous focus. These aren’t spare tracks, they’re potent messages and poisonous darts. “Requiem” finds Phonte and Oddisee indicting American racism and Xenophobia with fury and precision. On “Homicide,” yU and Nottz leave blood dripping all over the canvas. There’s “Reductionist Prayer,” where Open Mike Eagle lampoons fundamentalists and religious zealots over Oddisee’s warm Stevie Wonder keyboards.

But there’s ultimately no need to do the track-by-track breakdown. This is an anthology in the most traditional well-curated sense. Turn here if you want to find the best hip-hop artists of their generation in raw and unfiltered form. The bars are brimstone; the beats force your neck to swivel. Through all the discontent, rays of hope begin to emerge. If you remember the feeling you got when you first heard Soundbombing, stop searching. With "Heart," Willow Smith has graced us with two new minutes of heady, celestial meanderings. Over production by Chaotic, the 14 year old floats ideas like, I don't think it's fair that you're on Earth/ And I'm up up here making stars and and galaxies and planets/ Making the life I know the dimensions. Apparently, the song was inspired by the "chaotic" period during which she was for some reason locked out of her SoundCloud profile: "I thought I'd post a little something celebrating the end of the chaotic time whilst I wasn't able to long in this account," she writes in the songs description. The stars, they forget their SoundCloud passwords just like us.

Lisa and Naomi Diaz are the daughters of the late Cuban percussionist Anga Diaz. Naomi plays percussive instruments, the Cajon and the Batas, while Lisa plays piano. Together the twins have learned the songs of their father's culture, Yoruba.

Yoruba travelled from West Africa to Cuba with slavery in the 1700s. The Yoruba people have the highest twinning rate in the World, and twins occupy an important position within Yoruba culture. Ibeyi is pronounced "ee-bey-ee" and translates as "Twins" in Yoruban.

Ibeyi sing in English and Yoruban, and have created a minimalist sound that merges elements of their heritage with their natural love of modern music as teenagers growing up in Paris, citing artists such as James Blake and King Krule amongst their wide range of influences.

Ibeyi are currently recording their debut album for XL, with Richard Russell on production.
