by Leaders1354

The day has finally come. After a month of singles and releases, Leaders 1354 is proud to debut the full-length compilation project, LEAD NEVER FOLLOW, a perfect way for one of Chicago’s premier street wear brands and clothing boutique to start off 2015. Lead by singles from Spenzo, Taylor Bennett and BJ The Chicago Kid, LEAD NEVER FOLLOW puts on for yet another wave of talented young stars from the ‘Go. Boasting talented veterans ready to break through commercially like BJ and Spenzo to stalwarts like YP and Giftz and newcomers such as Roosevelt The Titan and Satchel Stokes, Leaders 1354 provides a rare glimpse into a full swath of what is to come out of one of the country’s most bountiful hip-hop locales in the coming months. Along with the release of the project today we also have limited edition LEAD NEVER FOLLOW long sleeve t-shirts which bear the album artwork and can be seen on Taylor Bennett below. The point of the mixtape is to raise the profile of the city at large, something the brand has been keen to do since opening their doors in Hyde Park at the original store front. Check out the project below and a post would be most appreciated!

The full project boasts tracks from the likes of Z Money, Giftz and BJ The Chicago Kid, among other talented locals. LDRS 1354 has always prided itself on being a central hub to the local music and art scene, Chance The Rapper had his first listening party for his 10 Day project in the storefront at 672 N. Wells and their gear has been seen on the backs of everyone from Jay-Z to Anthony Davis. We have big plans for 2015 and would love to begin it with your support, feel free to check out the music and post as you see fit. The project release is the culmination of several months of work and is a perfect sampler platter for the next wave of talent coming out of Chicago. Leaders has been part of that scene from the beginning and celebrates another year of that today with the drop of the full-length project and accompanying long sleeve.

Saba | Kentucky | DJBooth Freestyle Series, #36 | Download

Oft imitated but never equaled, the DJBooth Freestyle Series ran from February 2009 through June 2011. Its 250 total entries were the work of a veritable who’s-who of underground and emerging emcees, including rising stars like Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. Now, it’s back for a second round.

The 36th entry in the relaunched series comes courtesy of Saba, the Chi-Town native and Pivot Gang member who recently unleashed the (very dope) visual accompaniment to mixtape single “Burnout.” On Kentucky, the unsigned buzzmaker flexes his lyrical muscles over an original, self-produced instrumental. Fred Lozano provides original artwork to accompany the freestyle.

Saba has yet to announce any forthcoming projects but, if Kentucky‘s piqued your interest, you can hear more on the emcee/producer’s #ComfortZone street album, out now online.

Rae Sremmurd | No Type | Gravez Remix

Jaden Smith/Willow | Melancholy

Jaden Smith continues to prove that he’s wise beyond his years. After releasing the tracks “Blue Ocean,” “Trophy,” and “Fast,” the 16-year-old rapper-actor explores the dark side of fame on “Melancholy.”

Over a sample of Pink Floyd’s ’70s classic “Breathe,” Will and Jada’s son mocks his haters with lines like, “You guys are just some rich kids, how dare you call yourselves the MSFTS” and “You messin’ up a classic like how you did with The Karate Kid,” while his sister Willow provides backing vocals (“Run, rabbit run”).

Hear him trip out on the psychedelic song and look out for his mixtape Cool Tape, Vol. 2.

Sa-Roc | Shadows Approaching | Prod. Sol Messiah

New Sa-Roc on The Sol Messiah: Legend (Mixtape)

What im gon do now? I'm 5 foot 3 and 132 pounds. size 6 frame, with a legendary name, trying to live up to the honor with a few raps and a cute smile.
But that don't last forever.
This could be my last letter, so I write it with blood and sweat so it last better.
They wanna wipe me from the books cuz I'm plot heavy, but they won't give me 2nd looks less I'm top heavy.
Let me talk to you, my daddy sharecropped tobacco age 6 fore he learned to even walk proper.
You want some real spit? What you know about watching your father numb so he wouldn't have to feel shit?
Real quick out the room before the tears hit.
Clutching pipe dreams to my chest like a meal ticket.
And as much as I'd like to think it we aint much different, 30 years apart but the cops think we just niggas.
But let me slow down fore attention span go down, Gucci, Bugatti, fat bootys, illuminati.
Now, am I allowed to finish? Youngins lying in a pool of that red sauce all in the name of spinach.
Noodle all on the sidewalk, like an Italian dinner. But y'all don't wanna hear it.
Y'all tone deaf til I start talking c notes then y'all ninjas Bob Dylan.
Street poets, writing poems for the muh effing highest bidder.
Yeah I'm kinda bitter. You want a sweetheart, just stop making the street hard, then you won't get this sour lemon.
I'm feeling out of place in the places that I invented.
Feeling stifled, so I'm venting. Ear conditioning, pun intended.
I may be cut from a different cloth, but we all kindred. Formerly good kids in a mad city, call kendrick.
This high power coming from out the Nile River. Rap pharoah from the hells of the district, the sound killer.

The Rap Test

STORY BY: MATTHEW TRAMMELL/FADER

The Rap Test Is the Best Thing on the Internet (For Real This Time)

I have dreamed of a product like this existing for years and it’s finally here. 21-year-old Danny Friday created The Rap Test to crowdsource the world’s biggest rap fans: the site plays snippets of tracks from one artist and users race to identify the title before the clock runs out.

The quicker you answer, the more points you get, and the higher you go the more obscure the tracks get. FADER’s resident rap nerds got to Level 9 of the Kanye Test and started freezing up when it dipped into B-sides from the Freshman Adjustment mixtapes.

It’s fun, fast, and highly addictive if you’re a rap nerd: test your knowledge of catalogues from Kanye, Jay-Z, Drake, Meek Mill, Eminem & Kendrick Lamar and say goodbye to productivity for the rest of the afternoon.

Junglepussy | Nah | prod. By Shy Guy

Early into the second song on Junglepussy’s excellent debut album 'Satisfaction Guaranteed,' she raps, “How dope is this?

Teach you how to grow and live.” The line—rapped quickly, with her rollicking flow, kind of like a slinky expanding and contracting with each breath—also works as Junglepussy’s motto.

She’s here to please you, help you, teach you, and, most importantly, introduce you to her tropical lifestyle.
