RUBBLE KINGS | Hits Theaters Today

The documentary RUBBLE KINGS will hit theaters today, June 19th in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, with a wider release to follow. The film, narrated by John Leguizamo, follows the story of the gangs that roamed the streets in NYC in the 70's and their impact at that time.

From 1968 to 1975, gangs ruled New York City. Beyond the idealistic hopes of the civil rights movement lay a unfocused rage. Neither law enforcement nor social agency could end the escalating bloodshed. Peace came only through the most unlikely and courageous of events that would change the world for generations to come by giving birth to hip-hop culture. RUBBLE KINGS chronicles life during this era of gang rule, tells the story of how a few extraordinary, forgotten people did the impossible, and how their actions impacted New York City and the world over.

The new Amy Winehouse film is coming this summer.

The team behind award-winning documentary Senna have returned with a new through-the-lense look at Amy Winehouse’s life.

Told in the late singer’s own words with extensive unseen archival footage and previously unheard tracks, the documentary is set to tell one of the most tragic stories of the music industry in the 21st century.

The film follows the talented singer from her rise to fame to the personal difficulties she suffered following her problems with addiction that led to her death.

A press release for the film states: “Her huge success, however, resulted in relentless and invasive media attention, which coupled with Amy’s troubled relationships and precarious lifestyle, saw her life tragically begin to unravel.”

Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011 at the age of 27.

The singer won five Grammy Awards for her second album Back to Black, which broke records at the time of her death to become the UK’s best-selling album of the 21st century.

AMY will be released in the UK on 3 July.

OPEN CITY MIXTAPE | THE DREAMER | SHORT FILM

Open City Mixtape is a mixture of narrative and non fiction films that depict the occasional diabolic streets of New York City that are typically overlooked by New Yorkers. The 2-year long project is curated in the form of a mixtape, the film features a collection of stories about inner-city life created by Queens filmmaker A.V. Rockwell with the help of producers Amy Colladoand Julius Pryor.



On November 4th , the duo celebrated the finale of Open City Mixtape by displaying past work that lead to the premier of their latest film, EL Train. A special Q&A moderated by Jinx of Complex TV, artwork by graffiti collective URNewYork and a special photography showcase by Jai Hall and Britt Sense.

Brooklyn Street To Be Named After Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing

Somewhere in fictional movie heaven, Radio Raheem is smiling.

Spike Lee’s prized film, Do the Right Thing is turning 25-years-old later this month and is reportedly receiving a historic honor on the very same streets it was filmed on.

This past Monday (June 2), Brooklyn’s Community Board 3 voted to rename Stuyvesant Ave, the block between Lexington Ave. and Quincy St., “Do The Right Thing Way.”

Lee took to his Instagram account to share the good news and pose with an already-made sign of the new street name. “Good Morning People.Great,Great News Today The City Of New York Has Changed Stuyvesant Street Between Lexington And Quincy In The Brooklyn Hood,” he wrote.

The announcement may have been a tad bit premature, seeing that City Council has the final say-so on approving the name change. Councilman Robert Cornegy told the NYDailyNews that the process was much harder than posting on Instagram saying, “It’s a bit complicated, because the City Council’s standards for co-naming focus on people and organizations, not works of art.”

The Beastie Boys saw their fan’s hopes of getting a street renamed in the honor rejected by a Lower East Side community board, so nothing is promised when it comes to these procedures.

Nonetheless, the thought alone is enough to make a celebration about.

“I Know Ya Want It- Will Be On Sale.Soon Come And Dat’s Da Truth,Ruth.YA-DIG SHO-NUFF,” Lee continued on his social media as he promoted memorabilia from the movie.
