BADBADNOTGOOD's and Ghostface Killah are letting fans listen to their collaborative project, Sour Soul, prior to its official release.

The entire 12-track LP is available to be streamed via Soundcloud.

Sour Soul pairs Toronto-based jazz band BADBADNOTGOOD with Wu-Tang Clan member for an offering where the tandem intertwines '60s- and '70s-inspired sounds with live instrumentation.

MF DOOM, Elzhi, Danny Brown and Tree (Project mayhem) are featured on the LP.

STREAM CLAIRMONT THE SECOND'S 'PROJECT II' AND REALIZE THAT YOU WASTED YOUR YOUTH



Clairmont The Second doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but it’s his real name—no gimmicks. Clairmont doesn’t have much time to talk to me on the phone, so I have to call him during his spare period of high school, where he is currently enrolled until he graduates at the end of this year. His current day-to-day is typical for a teenager in Toronto, filled with the same mundane activities that most other 17-year olds have no choice but enjoy, like going to class and playing basketball extracurricularly. But Clairmont The Second doesn’t want to have a typical teenager’s life anymore, which is why he’s putting all of his efforts into music.

Clairmont’s second ever project is imaginatively titled Project II and can be best described as being a post-Chance The Rapper, post-Acid Rap release. “I love it but I hate it at the same time” says Clairmont when asked about the comparisons to Chance, whose 2012 mixtape ignited the internet. “He’s one of my favourite artists and he’s a big inspiration, but I also want to be my own person.” But outside of the Chicago native, Clairmont counts some of his hometown Toronto peers as inspiration as well. “I listen to a lot of everything, but during this album I was listening to a lot of bizZarh, Dom Kennedy, and The OBGMs.” Clairmont recorded this project in the comfort of his own bedroom, which he has recently remodelled to help him achieve a better state of relaxation. “It’s a good environment and very chill space. I think better when I’m more relaxed and I’m more effective.”



Most of the raps on Project II are centred around the same tropes you’d expect an 17-year old to rap about: relationships with girls, the perceived invalidity of high school, and how terrible it is to take the bus. But the way that these seemingly insignificant topics get woven together through Clairmont’s sparse narration that builds into a sudden crescendo keeps the listener entertained throughout the tape. He also produced most of the tape on his own, adding to the already impressive laundry list of tasks associated with the project. With no classic training, Clairmont is learning lessons in unlikely places. “I have an orchestra class that I take this semester in high school, but it’s not really teaching me anything. It’s teaching me what not to do.”

When asked what he hopes people take away from this album, he pauses for long enough for me to assume the call has dropped. “I want them to take away that I’m mature for my age and ahead of my time. And that I can actually make music that's not like anything else.”

Doja Cat Drops Her New EP Purrr!

Doja Cat first caught our ears with “So High,” an eastern-influenced ode to the drug called love. Cormega drops a smooth visual for the potent “Industry” off of his just released Mega Philosophy which features beats from Large Professor.

The black and white clips features imagery that keeps in line with the songs beware of the shady record industry theme.

Cormega offered up his Mega Philosophy LP, on July 22, via Aura/Slimstyle, for free, full streaming exclusively in The DJBooth.

Speaking with DJBooth, the Queensbridge vet stated, "An artist, a true artist, in one way or another evolves. Mega Philosophy is my evolution. This is the album that I really wanted to show that I’m an artist. I’m not somebody who’s trying to live off of glorifying my past street life, I’m not somebody who’s trying to sensationalize or use beef or conflict or controversy [to sell albums]. I’m trying to show that I’m a creative artist. This is the album that will tell me if I belong on the list of hip-hop's greatest emcees. I’m a lyricist, an MC, but at the core, I'm a poet who recites over a beat."

The project packs 11 original jams, none of which has previously been featured on our pages. Included is lead single "Industry." AZ, Black Rob, Chantelle Nandi, Jarell Perry, Maya Azucena, Nature, Raekwon, Redman and Styles P. make guest appearances on the set, which is produced in its entirety by Large Professor.

PARTYNEXTDOOR Announces New LP | Debuts Drake-Assisted Song

Unlike last year, summer 2014 is pretty wide open as far as album releases are concerned. Because the music game is chess, not checkers, OVO Sound all but saw July for the taking.

Following news of Majid Jordan’s upcoming A Place Like This EP, PARTYNEXTDOOR returns with the announcement of PARTYNEXTDOOR TWO, the proper follow-up to his 2013 debut. The Mississauga-bred singer-songwriter and producer is a pretty elusive figure compared to OVO founder Drake. But the ambiguity has left fans to latch onto his music and nothing else, so expect them to clamor for PARTY’s new body of work.

Clocking in at 12 cuts, including the previously released songs, “Her Way” and “Muse.” PARTYNEXTDOOR TWO, due July 29, is available for pre-order via iTunes. Fans who do so will receive “Her Way” and a cut featuring Drizzy called “Recognize.”
