OSUNLADE | MIXMAG SET | DEFECTED
Founded in 1999, Defected Records has been a dance music mainstay, consistently delivering releases from some of house music's most respected and innovative artists. Run by Simon Dunmore, early releases on the London label came from the likes of Bob Sinclar and Mr G while the last few years have provided a home for Tensnake's inimitable 2010 hit 'Coma Cat' and the remix vinyl of Storm Queen's 'Look Right Through'.
Yoruba Records owner Osunlade has been a member of the Defected family since remixing Reel People's 'In The Sun' in 2006. He has three big album releases this year, spanning a rich range of vibes: a soul-funk vinyl-only album, 'Peacock', an ambient electronic project and a new mix CD 'Atonement'.

Sango | Me de Amor | Nikes Edit
A lil' 160 flip on track titled "Da Rocinha 2" by Nikes.... Enjoy!
Alina Baraz | Paradise | Prod. By ESTA
Soft vocals and percussion that (literally) snaps. What a jam. No wonder it’s racked up over half a million plays.
Clearly, I’m not the only one paying attention to this guy.
Take a listen to Esta’s track titled “Paradise,” in collaboration with Alina Baraz.
Esta is more than just a Spanish pronoun.
He’s a guy from San Diego who has been making music with the LA-based Soulection label.
In that relative safety of the Internet, the whole genre of slow jamming R&B/hip hop has undergone a quiet mutation. Soulection is at the forefront of that change, with artists like Kaytranada and Mr. Carmack. Their songs are heavy on the low-end and Esta isn’t different in that regard.
He does strike a balance between sexy silk sheet music and R&B from a bygone era.

UNIVERSAL HIP HOP MUSEUM | TO OPEN IN THE BRONX
Before hip-hop became a musical genre, it was a form of expression — and an escape — for its early creators in the Bronx.
Now some of those elders of the genre want to underscore its Bronx roots by opening a hip-hop museum inside the Kingsbridge Armory, a long-empty fortress that is being redeveloped into a national ice sports center. The museum — to be called The Universal Hip Hop Museum — would utilize interactive technology to provide a comprehensive look at hip-hop, including its historical and cultural roots and the contributions of break dancers and disc jockeys, according to museum organizers.
“Many people have a misconception of what hip-hop is,” said Afrika Bambaataa , who is often called the godfather of hip-hop and will serve as the museum’s chairman.
“When they say hip-hop, they only say it’s the rapper, and there’s a whole culture and movement behind it.”
The plan for the museum was announced by a group of hip-hop artists and their supporters at a news conference in front of City Hall on Wednesday after a City Council ceremony inside to honor the achievements of Mr. Bambaataa and other early hip-hop pioneers, including Grandmaster Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz and Grand Wizard Theodore. The new museum, which is still being developed, is the latest in a line of efforts to honor hip-hop that date back to at least the mid-1990s.
In a separate project, Craig Wilson, co-founder of the National Museum of Hip-Hop, said that he was in negotiations with developers to open his museum in Harlem, though he added that he would consider a proposed location in the Bronx. But citing studies on foot traffic and tourists, he added that “the numbers in Manhattan make more sense financially than in the Bronx.”
Rocky Bucano, the president of the planned Universal Hip Hop Museum, said that their effort was different because it had the backing of Mr. Bambaataa and other artists who have agreed to serve on an advisory committee for the museum and raise money on its behalf. He said that they hoped to open in the armory by 2017. “Since we started the art form,” he said, “we think we should have the most invested in it.
The redevelopment of the Kingsbridge Armory will include 52,000 square feet of space dedicated to community use, said Councilman Fernando Cabrera, whose district includes the armory. Mr. Cabrera said that while he supported the idea of a hip-hop museum, the final decision would be made by an advisory board that was still being appointed to oversee the community benefits from the armory. He added that about a dozen community groups have expressed interest in using space at the armory, including a youth basketball program.
Grandmaster Melle Mel said that a hip-hop museum could draw tourists to the Bronx and become a destination like Yankee Stadium. “If you just keep it on the music level it cheapens it,” he said. “To embrace it as an art form, that’s what makes it a museum.”
The museum hopes to open in 2017 inside the Kingsbridge Armory.

Lady Alma | It's House Music
)
Yoruba Records is honoured to bring to you the incomparable Lady Alma.
Coming from the roots of that Philly soul sound, she quickly became synonymous with house music. Her powerful voice and empowering lyrics lift generations to fully understand self-worth and self-love.
Osunlade is a force within the foundation of house music. Born at the intersection of funk, jazz, blues and rock n roll, he injected new sounds into house with his pristine production and respect for the harmonizing roots of all music. These two dynamic souls join forces in an explosive song.
It's House Music takes us back to a time when one would stand in the alley of the warehouse district in sub-zero weather to hear the latest grooves of the night, dancing till dawn and emerging only for breakfast and a bed. It's House Musicâ will have you dancing all night long with its infectious hook and anthem to house music itself.
Lady Alma's soul stirring powerhouse vocal perfectly marries the mood and movement of this multidimensional sonic offering. This mix will have the world passing the plate from the dance floors of Chicago, Detroit, New York and Philly to the shores of Cape Town and Nigeria.
