The Complex Team
As of today January 5th, The Complex in conjunction with Undisputed gym will be opening in the beautiful city of San Diego. The Complex is a place that will be catered towards BBoys and Bgirls. We will also have The Complex open for other dance styles so everyone is welcomed to come by and check it out. Having a facility for the local scene has been on my mind for a few years now. Originally my goal was to open a BBoy Spot here in SD. Things didn’t work out to make that possible, but it was worth the shot.
Cros 1, Lancer, Eddie Styles, Eranetik, RawKen, Shyism, El Oso and myself have come together to build and invest in making The Complex become a reality. We all have been a part of the scene for many years, so we feel that it is our duty to create something for our scene. By us, for us, we welcome everyone from beginners to veterans.
Our doors will open today with classes and an open practice. We are offering monthly memberships for practices, classes and workshops. Check all the details on our website www.thecomplexsd.com

E-Turn & SPS | Lucid
"Lucid," the newest video for hip-hop artist E-Turn and DMC USA Champion SPS, is the fourth single off their debut album, Dark Trust. This video, directed by Orlando videographer Varras Tower, is intended to display E-Turn's lyrical ability and SPS's turntable skills whilst providing a pop of colorful visuals to accompany the music. Varras Tower has also directed videos for artists including Planet Asia, Blueprint, and Shabazz The Disciple. A lighthearted production, Lucid displays the celebration and showmanship of hip-hop's many elements.

UNIVERSAL HIP HOP MUSEUM | TO OPEN IN THE BRONX
Before hip-hop became a musical genre, it was a form of expression — and an escape — for its early creators in the Bronx.
Now some of those elders of the genre want to underscore its Bronx roots by opening a hip-hop museum inside the Kingsbridge Armory, a long-empty fortress that is being redeveloped into a national ice sports center. The museum — to be called The Universal Hip Hop Museum — would utilize interactive technology to provide a comprehensive look at hip-hop, including its historical and cultural roots and the contributions of break dancers and disc jockeys, according to museum organizers.
“Many people have a misconception of what hip-hop is,” said Afrika Bambaataa , who is often called the godfather of hip-hop and will serve as the museum’s chairman.
“When they say hip-hop, they only say it’s the rapper, and there’s a whole culture and movement behind it.”
The plan for the museum was announced by a group of hip-hop artists and their supporters at a news conference in front of City Hall on Wednesday after a City Council ceremony inside to honor the achievements of Mr. Bambaataa and other early hip-hop pioneers, including Grandmaster Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz and Grand Wizard Theodore. The new museum, which is still being developed, is the latest in a line of efforts to honor hip-hop that date back to at least the mid-1990s.
In a separate project, Craig Wilson, co-founder of the National Museum of Hip-Hop, said that he was in negotiations with developers to open his museum in Harlem, though he added that he would consider a proposed location in the Bronx. But citing studies on foot traffic and tourists, he added that “the numbers in Manhattan make more sense financially than in the Bronx.”
Rocky Bucano, the president of the planned Universal Hip Hop Museum, said that their effort was different because it had the backing of Mr. Bambaataa and other artists who have agreed to serve on an advisory committee for the museum and raise money on its behalf. He said that they hoped to open in the armory by 2017. “Since we started the art form,” he said, “we think we should have the most invested in it.
The redevelopment of the Kingsbridge Armory will include 52,000 square feet of space dedicated to community use, said Councilman Fernando Cabrera, whose district includes the armory. Mr. Cabrera said that while he supported the idea of a hip-hop museum, the final decision would be made by an advisory board that was still being appointed to oversee the community benefits from the armory. He added that about a dozen community groups have expressed interest in using space at the armory, including a youth basketball program.
Grandmaster Melle Mel said that a hip-hop museum could draw tourists to the Bronx and become a destination like Yankee Stadium. “If you just keep it on the music level it cheapens it,” he said. “To embrace it as an art form, that’s what makes it a museum.”

I STILL LOVE H.E.R. | 3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY | Monday 02/24/14
I Still Love H.E.R. is a booking/entertainment company created by LadyGemStar & KickAssAlyssia dedicated to the love of hip hop and its elements through the feminine experience. I Still Love H.E.R. hosts a monthly event in Chicago where the four elements are represented by featuring a variety of Chicago female DJs, MCs, Breakers and artists. We want to create a platform and raise awareness to the importance of the feminine contribution in the hip hop community in Chicago, as well as in its culture.
This month they celebrate there 3 year anniversary and there mixtape release of I STILL LOVE H.E.R. vol. III
In order to do this, they bring a vast variety of MCs that have performed over the past year and are also featured on the new mixtape.

Shon Roka (pronounced Shaun Roca) the DJ also known as Shaun Ortega was born on the west-side of Chicago. He started gaining fame as a bboy in 1991 and later became a member of a well known crew called the BRICKHEADZ. He would perform for such artist and events such as The Roots, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Dougie Fresh, Common, Rhymefest, Cypress Hill, Pharoah Monch, Nas, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Taste of Chicago, Lollapolooza, Looptopia, B96 Summer Bash just to name a few. The BRICKHEADZ also won many breakin' competition nationally and internationally. While Shon Roka was being active as a bboy he was working on his craft of being a DJ.
DJing for w/ Nike, Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas, Vans, Uprise (Chicago) Skateshop for numerous in-stores, sporting events, galleries and corporate outings. Also Shon Roka is a resident DJ post Covid in Chicago at McGee's, Tantrum, Imbibe and Harbee's. While being a DJ, he has been teaching music production and the Art of Skateboarding through Maggie Daley's After School Matters. Also known as Gallery 37.
