With Ground & Water, Blu and Damu The Fudgemunk have released yet another standout project as part of their already-incredibly noteworthy catalogues. But this time, they’ve done it together. After collaborating in different ways over the years, the two joined forces for a release that’s every bit as dope as you’d hope considering who’s involved. From the Los Angeles rapper’s tight-as-ever rhymes to the Washington, D.C. native’s crunchy production, Ground & Water captures exactly why Blu and Damu are so revered.
For Damu, that meant diving into the storied discography of his new partner-in-rhyme. While the producer always thought highly of the emcee’s talents, he says he realized that Blu’s much greater than people give him credit for. That led to the excitement of creating Ground & Water, because Damu knew he’d get to tell a story through a cohesive release. The story is one that treads personal, introspective territory that Blu delivers like only he can.

Blu and Exile | SOLD THE SOUL | Lyric Video
10 years after Blu and Exile released their magnum opus Below the Heavens, the California duo have reunited to release 14 tracks from the original 2007 sessions. In the Beginning: Before the Heavens contains previously heard songs and unreleased gems – the best of the best chosen from over 40 songs in the vault. Their third collaboration follows 2012’s Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them, and is slated for an October release.
In The Beginning: Before the Heavens is made of up songs that are raw and untouched, keeping the authenticity of Blu and Exile’s creativity at the time. The album has guest appearances from familiar names like Dr. Oop, Donel Smokes, Aloe Blacc, and Blame One. While “Soul Provider,” “Another Day,” and “Party of Two” appeared on Blu’s Lifted EP, the majority of these songs showcase Blu rapping at his peak, maintaining his underground attitude as he dishes on reaching star status (“Constellations”), getting radio play (“On the Radio”), or opposing views in a problem-ridden world (“You’re Gonna Die Someday”). Exile, meanwhile, builds a golden hip-hop era feel with head-nodding samples and DJ scratches.

In this case, it’s Boy Sand on the raps, while Blu handles the production. Coming off of the release of his collabo EP with Paul White, White Sands, Homeboy Sandman is now gearing up to release a full-length album in the fall. Not happy simply “crowd-funding” a release via Kickstarter like so many other artists, Deacon The Villain, Natti & Kno asked their fans for no money — instead they spent a year interacting with fans via social media & allowing them to vote on guest artists, suggest song concepts, letting them peek in on studio sessions & make decisions on album artwork.

Alchemist & Budgie Ft. Action Bronson, Domo Genisis, & Blu | The G Code
The Alchemist and Budgie release their latest offering with "The G Code" featuring Action Bronson, Domo Genisis, and Blu.
We recently learned that producers The Alchemist and Budgie (from the UK) have teamed up for a unique boxset concept album called The Good Book. The Good Book will contain Alchemist and Budgie's two separate albums, which are instrumentals for the most part, and all of which contain gospel samples.
The duo decided to let go of another leak off their upcoming LP with “The G Code”, featuring Action Bronson, Domo Genisis, and Blu. They also just linked up with Action Bronson for their latest release "With My Soul", make sure to check that one out as well.
The boxset is due out on April 11th and will be limited to 1,000 copies, so if you want one, we suggest pre-ordering it here.
