Yesterday, Chicago-born DJ and turntablist Chris Brown (not to be confused with the singer) was selected to compete in the 2015 Red Bull Thre3style competition. Today, we’re happy to share the latest episode of DJcity TV’s “Bedroom Sessions” series, which features a seven-minute mix from him. Watch above as Chris throws down a variety of tracks with scratching, juggling and tone play sprinkled in.
DJcity recognizes there’s a ton of dope DJs from around the world who deserve more shine. A competition specifically made to highlight schools/programs that teach Breaking to youth 13 and under. School/program must be a legit organization and competitors must under a teacher. Registration will be up soon along with more details.
It's a two day event!! Sat and Sunday.
DAY 1
Sat will be the main battle. Battle of the Year style. This will be held at Steinmetz College Prep auditorium. Stage battle. There will be plenty of seating for the parents (which was the biggest request last year). 3pm to 8pm. $10 admission to general public and kids that are competing. $5 to kids that are not competing. 6 and under FREE. Schools must be in crew uniform! You cannot battle unless suited up!

LUXE, a sister duo originally from Los Angeles, spin and produce an eclectic mix of music, ranging from West Coast Anthems to 808 infused synth maximalism.

Shon Roka (pronounced Shaun Roca) the DJ also known as Shaun Ortega was born on the west-side of Chicago. He started gaining fame as a bboy in 1991 and later became a member of a well known crew called the BRICKHEADZ. He would perform for such artist and events such as The Roots, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Dougie Fresh, Common, Rhymefest, Cypress Hill, Pharoah Monch, Nas, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Taste of Chicago, Lollapolooza, Looptopia, B96 Summer Bash just to name a few. The BRICKHEADZ also won many breakin' competition nationally and internationally. While Shon Roka was being active as a bboy he was working on his craft of being a DJ.
DJing for w/ Nike, Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas, Vans, Uprise (Chicago) Skateshop for numerous in-stores, sporting events, galleries and corporate outings. Also Shon Roka is a resident DJ post Covid in Chicago at McGee's, Tantrum, Imbibe and Harbee's. While being a DJ, he has been teaching music production and the Art of Skateboarding through Maggie Daley's After School Matters. Also known as Gallery 37.

This years event in Chicago was in a lovely venue call the 1st Ward The Chop Shop in the Wicker Park Area next door to Sub-T Chicago. The turn out was not what I expected but it was great to see all my family come through. THE BRICKHEADZ!
