One of the first American titans of industry, William A. Clark (1839-1925) founded Las Vegas through his railroad ventures and also served as Senator of Montana in the early 1900s. In his lifetime, he amassed an incredible fortune and a trove of treasures that reflect American history during the late 1800s.

Here, Life + Times takes a look at Clark's collection on auction at Christie's--acquired from his famous reclusive daughter, Huguette Clark--including artwork from John Singer Sargent, literature from Walt Whitman, and one of the greatest viiolins ever made.

Jihad Olympics| Sochi's Terror Problem

Islamic extremists in Russia want to blow up the Sochi Winter Olympics. They've already succeeded in terrorizing a city 600 miles away with three separate suicide attacks in which more than 40 people have died since the end of October. Russia's Jihadists come from loosely affiliated cells modeled on Al Qaeda whose goal is the creation of an Islamic Emirate in the southern part of the country. Their dream state would also include Sochi itself. But Russia has won high marks for making the security at the games unobtrusive and so far, effective. So security experts are warning that the Islamists could recalculate and target easier-to-hit cities around the country during the 2014 Winter Games. VICE News sent Simon Ostrovsky to the most dangerous region in Europe to find out how serious the threat to the Olympics and Russia actually is.

Warlords of Tripoli | Full Length

The war in Syria is dragging neighbouring Lebanon to the edge of the abyss, and nowhere is the growing chaos more stark than in the second city of Tripoli. Sunni militants aligned with the Syrian rebels frequently clash with fighters from the city's encircled Alawite minority, who support the Assad regime, in bitter street fighting the country's weak government is powerless to stop. With the rule of law no longer in effect in Tripoli, warlords like Sunni commander Ziad Allouki are now the city's real rulers, so VICE hung out with him and his fighters for a week to discover why they're fighting, and whether the country really is on the brink of civil war.

#TGIF The Warrior Women of Asgarda

Katerina Tarnovska is a Ukrainian preschool teacher, a kickboxing world champion and a self-proclaimed descendent of the legendary warrior women of the Amazon. In 2002 she founded Asgarda, a martial art exclusively for women that is inspired by the tribal traditions of the Scythian Amazons. In the past decade, more than 1,000 ladies have been entrusted with the teachings of the Asgarda, which Katerina says is the only fighting style specifically tailored to the female form.

Japan is a country that is dying—literally. Japan has more people over the age of 65 and the smallest number of people under the age of 15 in the world. It has the fastest negative population growth in the world, and that's because hardly anyone is having babies. In these difficult times, the Japanese are putting marriage and families on the back burner and seeking recreational love and affection as a form of cheap escape with no strings attached. We sent Ryan Duffy to investigate this phenomenon, which led him to Tokyo's cuddle cafes and Yakuza-sponsored prostitution rings.

Shon Roka (pronounced Shaun Roca) the DJ also known as Shaun Ortega was born on the west-side of Chicago. He started gaining fame as a bboy in 1991 and later became a member of a well known crew called the BRICKHEADZ. He would perform for such artist and events such as The Roots, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Dougie Fresh, Common, Rhymefest, Cypress Hill, Pharoah Monch, Nas, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Taste of Chicago, Lollapolooza, Looptopia, B96 Summer Bash just to name a few. The BRICKHEADZ also won many breakin' competition nationally and internationally. While Shon Roka was being active as a bboy he was working on his craft of being a DJ. DJing for w/ Nike, Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas, Vans, Uprise (Chicago) Skateshop for numerous in-stores, sporting events, galleries and corporate outings. Also Shon Roka is a resident DJ post Covid in Chicago at McGee's, Tantrum, Imbibe and Harbee's. Elephant Poachers In Kenya

In Northern Kenya the illegal act of killing elephants for their tusks is on the rise because of big demand for ivory products in Asia. VICE goes to Kenya's world famous Samburu National Reserve and meets some elephant poachers and a special group of rangers, who protect the elephants from hunters.
