Meet the Sand Snakes

We all remember the cruel and unexpected death of Prince Oberyn Martell in Season 4, and we all felt sorry that we didn’t had the chance to see more of the charismatic and unconventional prince.

His death by the hand of The Mountain is the most violent in Game of Thrones, a result of an impressive fight which unfairly finishes with the death of Oberyn. However, if Gregor Clegane thinks his victory was enough, he is wrong. Because the Kingdom of Dorne does not forget. They are Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken, and the Sand Snakes are just the girls to show that.

The Sand Snakes is the name given to eight of the numerous bastard daughters of Prince Oberyn, the ones which decide to become fearless fighters, and to form some kind of ‘intervention group’. They will appear in the fifth series, their goal being to revenge the death of their father. They are all named Sand, as this is the common name given to the illegitimate children of the Martell’s.

The Sand Snakes Casting was carefully chosen, and the actresses that have the chance to play The Sand Snakes are Rosabell Laurenti Sellers as Tyrene, Jessica Henwick as Nymeria and Keisha Castle-Huges as Obara.

We are surprised not to hear anything about Sarella Sand, the most important Sand Snakes in Songs of Ice and Fire Books. The HBO producers decided not to cast her in Game of Thrones Season 5, but just in case she appears in the next seasons, we have some drawings of her after this hot video.

The Walking Dead Season 5 Trailer | Video

Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead are anxiously waiting on the upcoming season after Officer Rick and his fragmented group finally reached the supposed safe haven of Terminus. After discovering the true nature of the stronghold, Season 5 finds the group making a dangerous trek to Washington. D.C. where a cure of the zombie disease supposedly exists.

Season 4 ended with Officer Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, sneering that the Terminus inhabitants are messing with the wrong people, which is where Season 5′s trailer begins. The group is seen attempting to escape, and Officer Rick sees some of the food prep from the cannibals inside Terminus. As always with The Walking Dead, it’s difficult to figure out who stays and goes, but it does look like Glenn, played by Steven Yuen, might be one of the first to fall.

If you were saddened by the possibility of Officer Rick’s Baby Judith becoming a tasty zombie morsel, fear not. Rick and Judith reunite at some point during the season. Also returning is the samurai sword-wielding Michonne, played by Danai Gurira. We won’t give it all away, but this season looks to capitalize on the thrills of the last.

The Walking Dead debuts October 12 on the AMC network.

Nas Discovers Family Past On PBS Show Finding Your Roots

Nas is a veteran MC at this stage of the game, he still has lots to learn. The Queensbridge artist appeared on the PBS series Finding Your Roots, and discovered plenty regarding his family’s history.

In its second season, Finding Your Roots, hosted by Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., takes its celebrity guests on a trip to the past using DNA testing to reveal to the stars their ancestry. In a panel discussion on Wednesday, Nas spoke about what it was like to learn more about his family tree as reported by the Associated Press.

When Nas became the first rapper invited to trace his family tree through the PBS series “Finding Your Roots,” he welcomed the opportunity.

But it hit him hard when he saw 1859 documentation of an ancestor being sold as a slave, he said during a panel discussion Wednesday.

“First I was enraged when I looked at the bill of sale,” Nas said. “I was like, that guy that owned property owes me some cash. My people made him really wealthy, so maybe I should find his family and talk.”

Joining Nas at the panel discussion as part of the Television Critics Association Press Tour event in Beverley Hills, Ca. were actor Courtney Vance, actress Khandi Alexander, author Anna Deavere Smith, and Gates as well.

Nas says he intends to dig even deeper, but doesn’t have plans to include his discovery in his music.

Seven Burning Questions for 'Game of Thrones' Season Five

Another year, another season and a lot of deaths. The “Game of Thrones” finale Sunday night didn’t disappoint, and even ended on an upbeat note (as much as the series can be upbeat).

But just because the season ended lightly, despite two confirmed major deaths and one probable major death, doesn’t mean “Game of Thrones” fans don’t still have a ton of questions. So while next season might still be a year (!) away, here are seven questions to think about until then.



1. How is Tyrion going to survive in the Free Cities?

Tyrion has made his way through Westeros because of his father’s wealth. He’s been able to pay his way out of any predicament by simply telling whichever threat he encounters, “A Lannister always pays his debts.”

That was when Tyrion had money to rely on. Now he’s on the run with Lord Varys to the free cities, and while I’m sure Varys took into account the funds, Tyrion doesn’t have the Casterly Rock vault to rely on anymore.

Plus, he’s obviously much more jaded and angry at the world at this point. It was one thing for his father to sentence him to death. In fact, it was almost expected, given how much Tywin hated his youngest son. Even Shae testifying against him was shocking and hurtful, but it didn’t faze Tyrion.

But seeing the two share a bed was too much for him. He got his sweet revenge on both of them in perhaps the most satisfying deaths of the series, save for Joffrey. Varys once said Tyrion is one of the only people in Westeros capable of ruling the country appropriately, but will this latest abuse cloud his usually pragmatic judgment or leave him seeing clearer than ever?

2. Who is the next Hand of the King?

With Tywin gone, there is a serious power vacuum in King’s Landing. As the Hand, the patriarch of the Lannister family controlled nearly every aspect of the government. Now that he’s dead, who becomes the puppet master?

There are a few candidates, each with some baggage. Most notably is Jaime Lannister. He’s been around three kings and Tywin now and knows the ropes. He’s smart and cunning as well. Plus with his hand gone, he’s of practically no use to the King’s Guard.

However, he’s still in the King’s Guard and takes his oath very seriously. Would he be willing to forgo that oath the become Hand next to his son?

There’s also Petyr Baelish, more commonly known as Little Finger. He was Master of Coin before marrying Lysa Arryn of The Veil. We’ve seen just how manipulative the man can be, so it makes sense he’d try to become the number two in the country. But he’s got baggage as well, namely Sansa Stark. The last we saw of Little Finger he was showing Robin Arryn how to be a man instead of a sickly boy and courting Sansa. We know he’s hungry for power, but would he risk Sansa — the daughter of his true love Catelyn Stark — for that power?

3. What’s going on with the dragons?

Daenerys Stormborn, the breaker of chains, showed that even she will break her rules. First, she allowed a man to sell himself back into slavery for a year, which even Barristan Selmy knew would lead to the exploitation of the older slaves.

Immediately following this meeting, a man came to Khaleesi weeping for his dead daughter. Drogon, Khaleesi’s black dragon, burned her alive. Khaleesi immediately chained up the other two dragons in the catacombs to stop them from injuring anybody else.

Will this lead to the dragons turning on her? She only has her power because the dragons burned the slavers of Astapor after she took over the Unsullied. Now that they’re trapped in a cave, will they still be the loyal beasts they have been or will they continue their independent streak and take it out on the young queen.

4. How are Stannis and the Night’s Watch going to handle the situation?

We saw the Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch defend The Wall against Mance Rayder and the wildlings. It looked a like they were about to broker a peace agreement before Stannis Baratheon showed up and took out much of Mance’s remaining army before capturing the King Beyond The Wall.

What’s going to happen to these wildlings? We know they’re on the run from some scary stuff, namely the White Walkers. But will the people of Westeros accept the wildlings into the fray against the monsters, or will they be shortsighted and simply enslave them?

Plus, what was up with Melisandre’s look toward Jon Snow? Her blue eyes were reminiscent of the White Walkers, which is a little eerie, and her gaze at Snow toward the end suggests she has a plan for him, probably something nefarious.

5. What’s Jorah going to do?

Jorah can’t catch a break. First, his unrequited love for Khaleesi is seriously depressing. Then he had to watch Daario Naharis leave her room after a night of intimacy. The final nail in the coffin came after someone presumably in the Lannister camp sent his pardon from to Mereen while they were in the thick of freeing the city.

Jorah is a man filled with transgressions. He was a slaver, something he’s at least shown a little remorse for. He also spied on Khaleesi almost to the point of her assassination before having a change of heart.

Now he’s on his own in Essos it seems. He’s a man without a country who is still loyal to Khaleesi, but it appears he will never be in her good graces again. So where is he going to roam, and how is he going to survive?

6. Is Arya about to go off in Bravos?

After nearly reuniting with her family multiple times, Arya is somewhat of an enigma. She didn’t return to Sansa for whatever reason and is obviously hell-bent on revenge at this point. She shared her list with The Hound before taking his money and fleeing to Bravos, leaving him for dead.

Why’s she going to Bravos? Well she does have a connection there: the mysterious Jaqen H’ghar. H’ghar is actually the identity of one of the Faceless Men of Bravos, a group of assassins. He killed three people at Arya’s request before giving her a steel token to find them if she ever were to get to Bravos.

Now that Arya has tasted her first murder, will she join the assassins, or simply learn from them to exact her revenge?

7. Where the hell are Benjen Stark, Gendry, Nymeria and Rickon?

It has been forever since we’ve seen Benjen Stark, and his whereabouts are one of the biggest of the series. He left early in season one to search out Mance Rayder, but never returned. The scouts he left with returned (and turned into wights), but Benjen was nowhere to be found. Surely George R. R. Martin wouldn’t be so cruel as to leave his location unanswered.

Speaking of missing, Gendry wasn’t seen this year at all. After being set adrift in a rowboat by Davos Seaworth for fear he would be sacrificed by Melisandre, the guy has simply been absent. It’s especially infuriating because, as Robert’s true son, he has the most legitimate claim to his throne

Rickon, along with Osha, split up with Bran after last season. I get that he doesn’t have many lines, but he is still a Stark and could potentially be Lord, or King, of the North.

Finally the saddest missing person isn’t even a person. Nymeria was last seen in season one after Arya sent her away for fear the Lannisters would murder her after defending Arya from Joffrey. All the deaths in the series don’t quite compare to the sadness in the eyes of the dog after Arya threw a rock to get her to leave.

So where the hell are all these characters?

Hugo Black ft. El Screwup & Yung | Dreams Really Come True

Hugo Black is an unsigned Rapper from Woodbridge, VA who produces all of his own tracks, and is one of this weekend's four Heatseekers. His track "Dreams Really Come True" also features El Screwup and "Yung" (perhaps a typo, perhaps a rapper named simply "Yung").

The truly charming thing about "Dreams Really Come True" is that it samples the theme from the TV show "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia," AKA a song called "Temptation Sensation" by German composer Heinz Kiessling. Couple that with great verses from Black, Screwup and Yung, and we've got a very enjoyable track here.

What’s New on Netflix Streaming | May 2014

At the beginning of (and throughout) every month, Netflix Streaming adds new movies and TV shows to its library. Here is a quick list of several that you might be interested in. Some of these were added halfway through or near the end of April, but we're going to include them in this roundup anyway, since you may have missed them. Some may also have previously been on Netflix, only to have been removed and then added back.

Godzilla vs. Mothra
Just in time for Hollywood's latest stab at the King of Monsters, many of Toho Company's “Shōwa”-era Godzilla movies, from the defining 1954–75 run, are now available for your binge-watching preparation. Those looking for the reptilian behemoth in his purest, most metaphorical form should turn to Godzilla: King of Monsters, the Americanized version (now with more Raymond Burr!) of Ishiro Hond's original film. But for kaiju vs. kaiju throwdowns, Godzilla vs. Mothra ranks among the best. Beefed up with bizarre sci-fi/fantasy plot hooks — Mothra's “keepers” are a pair of Thumbalina twins — the movie helped Godzilla take a huge step forward into becoming Japan's biggest family-friendly franchise. It is a pinnacle of Man-in-Suit destruction.

Hook
Cited as one of Steven Spielberg's worst films by critics and one of his best by nostalgic children of the ’90s, the Robin Williams–starring Peter Pan epic arrives on Netflix for your definitive judgment. Does it capture the whimsy of childhood playtime? Or is it a bloated excuse for Dustin Hoffman (and the recently deceased Bob Hoskins) to go hog wild with an over-enunciated English accent? Rufio wonders if the naysayers are just too grown up to understand.

The Selfish Giant
Clio Barnard followed up her riveting, 2010 documentary/narrative hybrid The Arbor with this coarse bit of modern-day Dickens. Teetering on the edge of miserablism, The Selfish Giant follows two 13-year-old working-class boys as they roam their small British town looking for junk to sell to a scrap dealer. When they stiff the guy, who turns out to be involved in some shady business on the side, hell breaks loose. Not every coming-of-age story can be picture-perfect. Barnard's portrait is unflinching.

Don Jon
Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut explores porn addiction, gives Scarlett Johansson a Jersey accent, and draws Tony Danza out from wherever Tony Danza was hiding the past decade. A scene where Johansson erotically convinces Gordon-Levitt to take night classes proves the actor turned director learned a thing or two hanging around Seth Rogen on the set of 50/50.

The Living Daylights
Like the Godzilla movies, Netflix earned a smattering of 007 missions this month, including Timothy Dalton's underappreciated first outing, The Living Daylights. After the Roger Moore–led installments devolved into pure buffoonery (looking at you, Moonraker), the franchise took its first gamble at a grittier, deadlier James Bond.

Instructions Not Included
This Spanish-language comedy turned heads last September when it took third place at the U.S. box-office charts in its debut weekend and earned over $44 million by the end of its run. Starring Eugenio Derbez as an Acapulco playboy thrust into the world of parenthood, Instructions Not Included is a for-all-ages comedy aimed at Latino families, who, much to Hollywood's surprise, are in search of entertainment as well.

Maximum Overdrive
Stephen King's sole directorial effort pits Emilio Estevez against killer machines (including an evil truck, an evil arcade machine, an evil lawnmower, and an evil soda machine). It's every bit as campy — and fun — as it sounds.

The Boondocks | Season 4 Trailer

After a four-year hiatus, The Boondocks is headed back to television on April 21st.

Adult Swim released the trailer for season four of Aaron McGruder’s animated program about the Freeman family and the other residents of Woodcrest.



Huey, Riley, Granddad, and the rest of the characters get set to return to the small screen on April 21st, Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder has also teamed with Adult Swim for a brand new series.

Adult Swim announced that Boondocks creator McGruder’s live-action comedy Black Jesus has been greenlit. The show will star Gerald “Slink” Johnson as Black Jesus. The Boondocks regulars Charlie Murphy and John Witherspoon are also part of the cast. The Cleveland Show’s Corey Holcomb has signed on as well.

Production for Black Jesus has already begun in Los Angeles, California. The show is scheduled to debut later this year. McGruder previously tackled the topic of Jesus being black on The Boondocks episode “A Huey Freeman Christmas.”
