As the anticipation before Sunday’s midseason premiere of The Walking Dead continues to mount, AMC has given fans a treat by unveiling the first two minutes of the next episode. Flying Lotus shares new Captain Murphy song | Cosplay

When he’s not deftly blending the worlds of electronic music, jazz, and IDM, super-producer Flying Lotus indulges his rhyme-slaying skills as the mysterious Captain Murphy. FlyLo’s identity as the rappin’ captain was the source of great mystery following the project’s emergence in early 2012, before he outed himself with the project’s first official release, the Duality mixtape.

Just yesterday, Flying Lotus announced the release of You’re Dead!, which promises two tracks featuring Captain Murphy. In anticipation, he’s shared a standalone single called “Cosplay” as part of the 2014 installment of Adult Swim’s Singles Program.

The track continues with the same kind of dense, brooding vibe FlyLo/Murphy started with Duality. His vocals are somewhere between a serpentine whisper and a pitchy, almost demonic cackle, an aesthetic further heightened by the haunted house piano, creaking bass, and swirling studio effects. Lyrically, he’s all over the map, dropping references about zombies and interplanetary travel, while managing to sneak in disheartening lines like “Cosplay like she nerdy … prefer it when she hurt me.” Cosplay, it ain’t just for dweebs.



To accompany the announcement, Adult Swim and Flying Lotus recently teamed up to create an animated origins story for Captain Murphy. It’s an intriguing and insightful story about maturity, self-assurance, and, um, scorpion sex. According to Noisey, the soundtrack is comprised of snippets of new Flying Lotus material. The Walking Dead Season 5 Trailer | Video

Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead are anxiously waiting on the upcoming season after Officer Rick and his fragmented group finally reached the supposed safe haven of Terminus. After discovering the true nature of the stronghold, Season 5 finds the group making a dangerous trek to Washington. D.C. where a cure of the zombie disease supposedly exists.

Season 4 ended with Officer Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, sneering that the Terminus inhabitants are messing with the wrong people, which is where Season 5′s trailer begins. The group is seen attempting to escape, and Officer Rick sees some of the food prep from the cannibals inside Terminus. As always with The Walking Dead, it’s difficult to figure out who stays and goes, but it does look like Glenn, played by Steven Yuen, might be one of the first to fall.

If you were saddened by the possibility of Officer Rick’s Baby Judith becoming a tasty zombie morsel, fear not. Rick and Judith reunite at some point during the season. Also returning is the samurai sword-wielding Michonne, played by Danai Gurira. We won’t give it all away, but this season looks to capitalize on the thrills of the last.

The Walking Dead debuts October 12 on the AMC network.

Walker Stalker Con is the fruit of The Walker Stalkers Podcast with James & Eric. The podcast began with an amazing trip to Senoia, GA where James & Eric were able to view the set of The Walking Dead and meet the incredible actors from the show.
