In the 3rd episode of our 4 part "Heart of The City" series we take a look at Chicago, arguably the toughest basketball city in the country to grow up in. We take a look at what some of Chicago's most respected basketball figures have to say.
In the face of this unspeakable tragedy the city has banded together. It's basketball community is extraordinarily tight-knit, and its resolve is proven and emboldened with every passing summer. Everything is on the line on every play...basketball is their escape and 'hoop' is all they know.
Will Bynum, Bobby Simmons, Sonny Parker & Scottie Pippen talk about the struggles hoopers face growing up. The reality out their front door is much different than the realities many of us face on a daily basis. Mentors like Larry Stewart, Mike Irvin, Simeon Coach Rob Smith & Lefty Boyd do their best to keep kids and adults off the street and in the gyms.
The story of Saieed Ivey is unfortunate. With every loss comes a chance to lead those following to a better future. Chareda Carter should be the last mother to tell this story. Failure Is Not An Option, not for those in the city of Chicago or for kids around the world.

Harry Giles Ultimate Mixtape | Most Versatile Big Man at Duke.. Ever??
Harry Giles ("HG") is a 6'10" man-child from Winston-Salem, NC where he spent most of his high school career at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, NC. At Wesleyan, HG won a state championship alongside teammate and current UNC wing, Theo Pinson, even though HG missed most of the season with a torn left knee. Currently a 225 pound, 18-year-old freshman at Duke University, Giles will likely be the next in line of one-and-done candidates for Mike Krzyzewski. Before committing to Duke, Giles attended Oak Hill Academy but hurt his right knee during the first scrimmage of the season and returned home to finish his high school near family. HG is a super skilled big-man with the frame and athleticism that should separate him in his match-ups, especially towards the end of the ACC season.
More than just a basketball players, HG is a great person too; always taking opportunities to help and connect with the youth in our communities. If Giles stays injury free this season, don't be surprised to see him come across Freshman of the Year honors or even mess around with ACC Player of the Year. A lot of time and a lot left to play out, check out what all the hype is about!

Steph "Chef" Curry | NBA MVP | Official Mixtape
Article by: Tim Coyne (Haightstreethardwood)
During a rare lull in the All-Star weekend's festivities, an extremely animated Lebron James holds court in a New Orleans lobby with the other members of Miami's most famous trio. The subject of the King James outburst, Stephen Curry stands blushing, a wide-eyed high school freshman invited to sit with the upperclassmen in the cafeteria, a fist balled over his mouth in a failed attempt to conceal excited giggles as as the two-time finals MVP gushes over his disassembling of Heat point guard Mario Chalmers during a spectacular 4th quarter performance when the two teams met just days earlier. While trying to play it cool Curry manages to respond with a nervous, "I try." Leading to the biggest laugh of the conversation from both Wade and James who then get to the heart of what they're trying to say all along. James mutters, "You more than try, you a bad Motha Fucka." Wade reaffirms, "You a bad boy" The exchange is a minute long clip from an ESPN E60 feature following Curry on his first trip to the All-Star game, but may be the most important moment. The league's premier stars telling him he belongs. Appointed by the King as one of his own...

"J.Crossover" A Jamal Crawford Documentary | The Crossover King Is a True Role Model
“J.Crossover” A Jamal Crawford Documentary | The Crossover King Is a True Role Model
We had the pleasure of spending our summer in Seattle with the LA Clippers’ Jamal Crawford as he hosted his annual Seattle Pro-Am league. For two months, we captured highlights and conducted interviews with Pro-Am players like Isaiah Thomas & Tony Wroten as well as Seattle basketball legends like Gary Payton and Brandon Roy who talked to us about Jamal and how committed he is to giving back to his community.
We also talked to Jamal about his basketball journey that started at home with a yellow Dr J basketball to playing pick-up games with the original Lob City crew of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp while Crawford was still in high school to the University of Michigan and then to the NBA where he has been breaking records and throwing lobs to Blake Griffin as part of the modern day Lob City.

Special Thanks to Brandon Roy, Gary Payton, Isaiah Thomas, Tony Wroten, Will Conroy, Rashaad Powell, Reggie Moore, Mike Bethea and all of the players and staff at The Seattle Pro-Am
We will be releasing a full uncut interview with Jamal Crawford in the near future.

Stanley Johnson "Work" | A Ballislife Original Mini-Doc
Stanley Johnson "Work" | A Ballislife Original Mini-Doc
Stanley Johnson is a 4 time California State Champion making him the only player in the state's history to accomplish such a feat at the highest level. We've known Stanley since his freshman year at Mater Dei when he wasn't even a starter on the team. We've seen Stanley transform for a role player to arguably the most NBA ready product in the nation today coming out of high school. You've seen the mixtapes and the improvement in his game from year to year but what you don't see is the hard work and dedication Stanley has put into his craft. Stanley's journey to his 4th state championship and becoming the player he is today is not only impressive but it should also serve as inspiration to all up and coming ball players. Stanley has a poster hanging in his room given to him by his mother and the poster reads "The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible." There is no secret to becoming great at your craft, it just comes down to how hard you're willing to work.
