Beats Unraveled #1 by BINKBEATS: The Healer by Madlib & Erykah Badu
In this first episode of BEATS UNRAVELED, Binkbeats covers "The Healer" by Erykah Badu and Madlib.
Binkbeats is an artist from the Netherlands whose covers of current artists such as Baths, Amon Tobin and Flying Lotus have gotten him accolades online. They're not just your ordinary cover - he performs them live in one take, with his ultimate aim being to hunt down the songs' sounds as closely as possible; and he consistently succeeds in putting his own creative spin on them.
We first heard of him when Kutmah played his cover of Erykah Badu/Madlib on a Boiler Room set - it was such an individual rendition that it made us instantly curious - it took us a little bit of online digging (http://youtu.be/R8mf3EmVssA) to find out what the track was. We linked up with his manager, chatted away and a natural partnership blossomed.
A couple of months later, we headed down to Utrecht where we got a chance to experience Binks' renditions in front of us live as well as talk to him about his fascinating sound discovery and selection process. For his next video, he's covering Caribou's 'Bowls'. See the magic for yourself, and have a look at our BTS video for further unraveling: http://bit.ly/1nBJrFr

Shon Roka - Erykah Badu (Quick Mix) | True Essence Of Love
Usually when I put out a mix, it tells you how I'm feeling at the moment. This one is so mellow, so Soulful and R&B, I don't think it truly tells you what's on my mind. I once was told, every mix I put out, there was something going on in my life. This is true...This mix was done because I'm content with my emotions, but I still struggle with the pass. Anyhow, enjoy, hate, love, whatever you feel is necessary. #BHZLife Blog
