Grant Park Skatepark | Grand Opening | Sat Dec 6

by:By Josh McGhee/DNAinfo

The skate park, which has been so highly anticipated they had to ramp up security to keep skateboarders out while the concrete cured, will open its gates with a big party Saturday featuring local DJs, contests, giveaways and — of course — boarding, said Bob O'Neill, president of the Grant Park Conservancy, which lobbied aggressively for funding to get the skate park built.

"People really want to use it. It's really motivating to have park space that's going to be used by people from all over the city and suburbs," O'Neill said. "I think the only people more excited than me are the skateboarders and BMXers. They've really been anticipating this."

The skate park, which sits just east of the Agora "legs" sculptures at the south end of Grant Park near Roosevelt Road, is opening ahead of schedule. It was initially expected to be completed by January.

Despite a chilly December opening, the celebration, which begins at 11 a.m., is expected to generate a good turnout, O'Neill said.

Saturday will be windy with temperatures reaching as high as 38 degrees and as low as 27 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

LANCE MOUNTAIN | NIKE SB | AIR JORDAN I

The way skate legend Lance Mountain used to mismatch his Jordans comes into play with the new Nike SB x Air Jordan I collaboration.

Coming in both black and white colorways, the sneakers feature an upper with accents in varsity red on one shoe and royal blue on the other. When properly worn in from skating, the black paint treatment fades away to reveal more red and blue shining through on the shoes' upper.

NIKE SB X BAOHAUS DUNK HIGH | CHAIRMAN BAO

You might know BaoHaus as a top eatery in NYC, or for the hilarious Fresh Off the Boat series with Eddie Huang, but now the company is extended their brand even further with some help from Nike SB.

This special Dunk High collaboration is called the "Chairman Bao" — a nod to the restaurant's signature dish — and features a colorway reminiscent of BaoHaus's 14th street exterior.

From the beige unfinished suede upper to the ice blue midsole, you'll be craving these big time.

Expect these Nike SB Dunk High “Chairman Bao” kicks to hit Nike SB retailers starting April 1st.

NikeiD Dunk Goes Varsity with Be True to Your School Options | April

Old school Nike Dunk fans can rejoice. NikeiD is updating its Dunk category this April with options based on the "Be True to Your School" colors.

 photo 2c547643-a6db-4f43-a108-4ad6493d8d47_zps4f189bc6.jpg

Starting April 7, 2014, fans will be able to choose from the original "Be True" colorways along with material choices consisting of leather, suede, and snakeskin. For those not familiar with the BTYS collection, it was the original Dunk colors that Nike released in 1985 for seven prominent schools it was sponsoring at the time. In 2005, Nike SB celebrated 20 years of that collection with a re-release featuring of course SB upgrades.

Along with the BTYS color options, customers can now opt for a speckled midsole and laces as well. For those that hate the waiting times associated with the "ID" process, Nike is promising a two week window from design submission to delivery. Start planning your ideas now and when the time comes, share your creations with us on social media using the #complexkicks hashtag.

You Wish These Art-Inspired Nike SB Stefan Janoski Sneakers Were Real

 photo 59f35f52-d63c-4bc1-8a51-0d6d81a2b76d_zpse8bbff42.jpg

Stefan Janoski's signature shoes and modern art come together in an imaginary collaboration dreamed up by Bulgarian artist Simeon Georgiev. Inspired by existing art-inspired footwear, Georgiev created these 3D models of the Nike SB Stefan Janoski meshed with a Jackson Pollock drip painting, the iconic Jean-Michel Basquiat crown, and Keith Haring's colorful dancers.

"I was trying to do 3D models of the sneakers as best I could. When I finished them, I decided that it would be interesting to create the final renderings not as the original shoes available now but as collaborations between Nike and the modern artists," said Georgiev, who recently created 3D models of LEGO mini-figures decked out in some of our favorite streetwear brands.

While Georgiev's Haring-inspired sneakers channel the vibrant color scheme of the New York artist's dancing caricatures, the other two sneakers are less flashy—though still pretty dope. It's too bad these sneaker designs aren't real because we know people who would drop a ton of money for these art-inspired kicks.
