DJ Shadow Spinning Live In NYC, 1996
Shon Roka (pronounced Shaun Roca) the DJ also known as Shaun Ortega was born on the west-side of Chicago. He started gaining fame as a bboy in 1991 and later became a member of a well known crew called the BRICKHEADZ. He would perform for such artist and events such as The Roots, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Dougie Fresh, Common, Rhymefest, Cypress Hill, Pharoah Monch, Nas, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Taste of Chicago, Lollapolooza, Looptopia, B96 Summer Bash just to name a few. The BRICKHEADZ also won many breakin' competition nationally and internationally. While Shon Roka was being active as a bboy he was working on his craft of being a DJ.
DJing for w/ Nike, Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas, Vans, Uprise (Chicago) Skateshop for numerous in-stores, sporting events, galleries and corporate outings. Also Shon Roka is a resident DJ post Covid in Chicago at McGee's, Tantrum, Imbibe and Harbee's. DJ Shadow has unveiled a new visual for his Nils Frahm-assisted single “Bergschrund.” “Bergschrund” was directed by Matt Devine and stars Matthew Sunderland as an unsuspecting target of otherworldly activity. The track comes from DJ Shadow’s latest record, ‘The Mountain Will Fall,’ which was released earlier this year on Mass Appeal Records.
Says director Matt Devine: "To me the track has a really cinematic and also science fiction tone to it. I wanted to make a film that really worked with this visually but also had a humor to it. It is also my favorite track from the album so I was honored to be asked to make something for it."
Says DJ Shadow: "Nils Frahm is an insanely smart composer. He created a sinewy, gated vintage synth line which I then expanded upon, hopefully to complimentary effect. Bergschrund is an obscure German word for a particular type of crevasse, or ice cliff, usually found on mountains at very high elevations."

DJ Shadow | Three Ralphs | Official Music Video
DJ Shadow has debuted a video for the song “Three Ralphs,” from his ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ release on Mass Appeal Records. It’s a haunted, strobing animation set to Shadow’s dark, glitchy soundscape of minimalist beats. It was created by the artist Ruffmercy, who has worked with Earl Sweatshirt, Run The Jewels, Danny Brown, Dilla and Nas, and beyond. The album, Shadow’s first in four years, finds the pioneering DJ and producer exploring new realms of composition. It debuted at #1 on iTunes’ electronic chart in 16 countries and became Shadow’s first #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic chart in the US.

DJ Shadow ft. Run The Jewels | Nobody Speak | Official Music Video
DJ Shadow has unveiled the music video for the song “Nobody Speak” featuring Run The Jewels, a standout track from his latest album ‘The Mountain Will Fall,’ out now on Mass Appeal Records. The video depicts a meeting of leaders that quickly descends into chaos, a scene not unlike what is unfolding in governments around the globe. It also features appearances by DJ Shadow and Run The Jewels.
Says DJ Shadow: "We wanted to make a positive, life-affirming video that captures politicians at their election-year best. We got this instead.”
Says Run The Jewels’ Killer Mike: "It's such a dope video. It's what I really wish Trump and Hillary would just do and get it over with...And even in that fight I think Hillary would win - and that's not an endorsement."
The video was directed by Sam Pilling and produced by Pulse Films, stars Igor Tsyshkevych and Ian Bailey, and was shot in NYC, London and Ukraine.

DJ Shadow | The Mountain Will Fall | Official Music Video
DJ Shadow has unveiled the first music video from his new album, ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ (out June 24 on Mass Appeal Records). The otherworldly, gorgeous video for the title track features an astronaut floating across a mysterious planet and hurtling through a distant universe synched to the song’s “rolling, meditative” (Vice Noisey) rhythm. The video was created and directed by Territory Studios, who has worked on some of the biggest films of the past few years (The Martian, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron), plus video games like Forza, Need For Speed, Killzone and more.
Says director Marti Romances: "As huge fans, it’s been a pleasure to collaborate with DJ Shadow on the graphics. We’re really excited by the project and look forward to an amazing come back. The peaceful and long momentum of the song inspired us to create something very unanimated and mysterious. The part we like the most is where we see the astronaut being shot into hyperspace and then we see that being part of that cosmic constellation at the end.”
DJ Shadow will host three Beats 1 shows this year, the first of which will air in June. The show will be called DJ Shadow Presents: #radioface. His BBC Essential Mix will debut on July 2.
'The Mountain Will Fall' is DJ Shadow's first full-length release since 2011 and finds the groundbreaking artist shifting further toward original composition, experimentation, and live instrumentation. It features collaborations with Run The Jewels, Nils Frahm and Matthew Halsall amongst others.

DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist | Renegades of Rhythm Tour
In 2014, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist embarked on a worldwide tour spinning records exclusively hand picked from Afrika Bambaataa's 42,000 strong collection.
These acclaimed DJs brought with them 6 PLX-1000s and 2 DJM-900SRTs, mixing a nostalgic set that chronicled and honoured a genre that influenced so many others.

DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist Announce "Renegades of Rhythm" Tour
DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist announced that they will be touring the United States this fall and playing music by Afrika Bambaataa. The Renegades of Rhythm tour is co-signed by the Zulu Nation founder himself.
“I call on all who love Hip Hop to come out, see them, hear them,” Afrika Bambaataa says in a press release. “My story is our history in deejaying.”
Afrika Bambaaataa is a deejay from New York. His music is not only Hip Hop but also features many genres from pop to salsa. His most popular work is the single “Planet Rock,” which was released in 1982 in collaboration with The Soul Sonic Force. They released Planet Rock - The Album in 1986.
DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist will be playing vinyl from Afrika Bambaataa’s personal collection. The records were stored in Cornell University’s archives and the deejays had to sort through more than 40,000 of Bambaataa’s records to decide which ones to use on the tour.
The tour is slated to mesh the old with the new by utilizing six turntables and visual effects from Ben Stokes, who frequently collaborates with DJ Shadow.
DJ Shadow has performed with Diplo and Bassnectar and helped with the music for the video game Grand Theft Auto V.
Cut Chemist is a former member of the Rap group Jurassic 5 and the Latin Funk group Ozomatli. His first solo project was 2006’s The Audience’s Listening. He started deejaying when he was 11 years old.
This isn’t the first time DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist have worked together. In 2008, they released The Hard Sell.

He would perform for such artist and events such as The Roots, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Dougie Fresh, Common, Rhymefest, Cypress Hill, Pharoah Monch, Nas, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Taste of Chicago, Lollapolooza, Looptopia, B96 Summer Bash just to name a few. The BRICKHEADZ also won many breakin' competition nationally and internationally. While Shon Roka was being active as a bboy he was working on his craft of being a DJ.
DJing for w/ Nike, Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas, Vans, Uprise (Chicago) Skateshop for numerous in-stores, sporting events, galleries and corporate outings. Also Shon Roka is a resident DJ post Covid in Chicago at McGee's, Tantrum, Imbibe and Harbee's. While being a DJ, he has been teaching music production and the Art of Skateboarding through Maggie Daley's After School Matters. Also known as Gallery 37.
